2 years have passed since my last post and without going into the niddy griddy – it has been one hell of a rollercoaster ride. Things started to look good, then bad, then somewhat better, then much worse. But when life gives you lemons – you grow lemon trees.
So while I was very busy with getting my stuff sorted out – I spent the later part of this year regrouping my resources and started to work on what I have been building up to over all these years: A professional game studio and a launch title in a fantasy universe where I can place all the stories and mechanics that I have worked on in my research projects under Dawn.
Originally I wanted to turn Dawn into a Studio eventually (hence the Studio part), but that has since started to be in conflict with the educational nature of this website. So now is the perfect time to start properly and keep Dawn running as a community for sharing knowledge.
Without further ado…may I introduce:
My new Indie Game Studio and furthermore a launch title to go with it – slated to be developed over the next 2-5 years or more, called:
A fantasy RPG-like with a focus on athmospheric and immersive dragon battles. Light-hearted, but with deeper themes and a vibrant & colorful universe of adventure & magic to go with it. A cooperative experience that is meant to stay with you.
It was featured here since when I started working on the idea in Oktober and I’ll keep it here as a backlink, but further updates will be posted on the Puppet Games Website or the new Puppet Games Discord.
A composer and a 3D artist have already joined the project and we built an internal Proof-of-Concept using Unreal 5 & store assets in September to verify our skill and see if we could work with the engine. I have also spent time with the Unreal Engine in various subversions since 5.0 hit release and got my C++ Knowledge up to date. And the features are, to put it mildly, batshit insane. There is alot of optimization and consideration to go with it, but when used correctly, it enables one to create worlds that wouldn’t have been possible for a small team just 2 years ago. Creators are getting so many powerful & exiting tools and I’m looking forward to making use of them. In the right way of course – the last thing people need is another lootbox-ai-asset-flip with raytracing. Well…you’ll have to forgive me for the raytracing though.
The game concept & idea will be further solidified in a prototype that we are currently working on. Updates and more info will be posted to the respective Puppet Games channels.
I will focus alot on this project in the coming years and Dawn will likely fall behind again, but I do intend to turn what I learn into valuable tutorials for you to follow and start to create your own worlds (and optimize that greedy Lumen). I hope I can deliver – in either way.
Thank you all for your support!
Cheers
